A Sound Construction

Priority in any office space is creating an environment suitable for work, something which is greatly affected by noise levels. It is this consideration that necessitated Acoustic Doorsets tested and certified for mitigating sound transfer between rooms. Private offices and meeting rooms achieved this with doorsets rated up to Rw 38 – signifying a 38dB noise level reduction from one side of a door/wall to the other. Spence Doors custom built these doors and frames altogether specifically for their acoustical goals; the doors being up to 48mm thick with MDF skins, and framed by 1.6mm Zincanneal frames.

Safety & Compliance

Fire safety was also an imperative on this project. In relation to doors, this meant the specification of doorsets tested against the latest Australian Standard for fire rating AS1905.1:2015. Spence Doors entire fire door range met this requirements and was backed by a project management team capable of advising all door constructions with an eye for compliance. These fulfilled up to 2 hours of fire separation between fire compartments permitting the safe evacuation of occupants in the event of a fire. Fire compartments included distinct sections of office levels, as well as between storeys in the form of stairwell doors. This was all achieved without the need for fire bolts given their safety and compliance risks.

Variable Manufacture

The doors package in totality featured a wide range of door types, sizes, and configurations. The aforementioned fire, and acoustic doors were produced alongside bespoke non-rated Laminated Veneer Lumber Doors. These were produced up to 40mm in thickness for both single and double leaf doorways. Door variations also included the specification of oversized doors - those greater than 2400mm height and/or 1200mm width). Oversized doors were custom built with RHS Internal Frames to bolster their structural strength and offset the heightened bowing risk of large doors.

Variations also extended to the door frames produced. The majority found in the office spaces was made up of 1.6mm Pressed Metal Frames painted to visually match the interior design. Sliding doors were also addressed with cavity units custom built for these openings. Similarly, the modern stylings of the offices called for concealed frames which was fulfilled with EzyJamb Single Rebate door frames.

Delivering on Design

As a premium workplace and destination for client meetings, aesthetic finish was front-of-mind. This is highlighted by a series of Veneer Doors hosting a natural warmth befitting of a welcoming workplace. The elected Blackbutt Quarter Cut veneer stands out and tied in the look of each doorway to the furniture and cabinetry in the offices. 12mm KD Hardwood Edge Strips were fitted to these doors for additional protection along their stiles / vertical edges without compromise to their visual finish.

The final result is a series of best-in-class office spaces meeting a number of requirements in relation to door production:
