2HR Fire Rated
Accredited as a fire-rated product suitable for 120-minutes of fire protection.
Door sets made-to-order for acoustic isolation and fire-resistance in commercial, residential, and industrial spaces. This collection of profiles are certified and approved for compliance in 2-hour fire doors. Fire testing is completed in accordance with the latest Australian Standard AS 1530.4:2014 for a variety of configurations to this door set. All sets are acoustically tested and certified to hold an Rw (STC) rating indicative of their capability in achieving Sound Transmission Loss from one side of a door to the other. Independent sound measurement test reports from the CSIRO/Acoustic Engineering Laboratories confirm these door sets meet AS1191:2002 & ISO 140.3:1195 acoustic performance standards. Proven for performance with Spence's extensive experience in manufacturing and supplying acoustic doors for the likes of apartment entrances, office spaces, music / theatre venues, healthcare facilities, community spaces (libraries, halls, etc.) and industrial spaces.
A Sound System
Both Acoustic and Fire Door Sets are the result of a complete system of parts working in tandem. The door leaf, door frame, seals, and the wall it is fitted into altogether create an acoustic barrier. Spence Doors’ specify the door leaf, frame, and appropriate seals together as a tested system.
Performance
Spence Doors’ range of 2HR-Fire-Rated Acoustic Door Sets are tested to meet the following ratings:

This is a complete door set comprising door leaf(s), metal or timber frame, and supply of appropriate seals.
All Spence Doors' acoustic + fire-rated door leafs feature a core appropriate to both acoustic performance and fire-resistance. This is a specialty core expressly designed and tested to resist the passage of fire and sound from one side of a door set to the other.
The frame of an Acoustic Door Set must be compositionally solid throughout. For 2HR FR applications, this must be a Pressed Metal frame (minimum 1.6mm thickness) with Spence Doors approved mortar or other material for backfilling. The profile of frame is dependent on the particular details of specified door set; some will require a return / inset section in the frame for seals to be fitted whilst others only require surface adhered seals. See Seals for more information.
A typical door set features a 3 - 10mm gap below the door which presents another opportunity for sound to pass through. This bottom-of-door gap is sealed by a Drop Seal / Bottom Seal which covers the gap between the door’s underside and the floor covering. This Bottom Seal may be surface mounted onto the door’s face, or mortised (or semi-mortised) into the door’s underside to stay hidden in applications where aesthetic finish is important. The specific model of Bottom Seal supplied upholds the 2HR Fire Rating required of the complete door set. Spence Doors’ Profiling service can prepare the cutout for the Bottom Seal to be made in advance and minimise the time and labour required when installing on-site.
Some Acoustic Door Sets (but not all) address the perimeter gaps in the door set. A typical door set features a 3mm gap along its perimeter (sides and header) which present an opportunity for sound to pass through. This perimeter is addressed by an acoustic seal fitted onto / into the frame to close off the gap and subsequent ability for sound to pass through. This seal comes in three distinct seal types depending on required acoustic and fire-resistant properties. The specific type and model of seal supplied upholds the 2HR Fire Rating required of the complete door set.
In a Pair Door, acoustic seals are also required along each of the door’s leading edges. This comes as a result of the gap between doors presenting a new opportunity for sound to pass through. This also applies to Pivot Doors as the non-hinged stiles require a gap for clearance to swing properly. Meeting Stiles come in a number of forms determined by the door set’s acoustic and fire-resistant requirements. The specific model of Meeting Stiles supplied uphold the 2HR Fire Rating required of the complete door set.
An internal metal frame to combat bowing in oversized doors. Recommended for doors exceeding 2400mm height or 1200mm width.
13mm thick vision panel may be fitted into Acoustic Doors. Supports up to 2 Hours of fire-resistance and up to an Rw 38 acoustic rating.
