Frame Backfilling

Backfilling pressed metal frames with tested and approved material during the production stage for fire-rated and acoustic-rated doorsets.

Metal frame backfilling in fire-rated doorsets is required under Australian Standards (AS 1905.1:2015). The Spence team can complete this during the manufacturing stage, so you don’t have to later on.

Do away with the additional on-site time, effort and mess of backfilling frames. Using fire-rated plasterboard or pouring mortar into the frame and then waiting for the mortar to set is costly and everyone’s least favourite job. Having this completed in advance minimises costs and enables delivery of major projects on time.

Why Backfill in Advance?

Minimising Labour

Backfilling is an arduous task to complete on the project site that necessitates dedicated workers to complete the process over and over again for each doorset. Pre-backfilled frames cuts out this step in favour of arriving on-site and fitting the frame to the adjoining wall with no further preparation.

Assurance of Compliance

Site installation is subject to the realities of the project site like insufficient training or difficulty inaccessing the backside of the frames. Things can go wrong if an incompatible backfilling material is used or if it is applied incorrectly, both errors would result in an incompliance fire or acoustic doorset. Do away with this uncertainty around compliance by letting the Spence Doors team handle it in advance.

Meeting Project Timelines

On a major project, the time allotted to each doorset can add up very quickly. Even shaving off minutes for each door can turn into days of time saved, particularly when considering that the waiting process of the backfilling material drying is gone.
