Our client Capstone Construction brought us into the fold to manage the doors package with particular respect to the workspace’s aesthetic and acoustic requirements. The result is the latest from Hub Australia delivering a colourful and calming workspace for residents, North Adelaide locals, and passers-through.
Made You Look
Doors throughout the workspace were made to address the specific needs of each space ranging office dividers, conference rooms, and bathroom facilities. All being customer-facing spaces, the finished look was a key consideration. With this in mind, Laminated Doors were fitted to host a natural oak visual. The laminate’s warm palette and woodgrain finish accomplished the veneer-look befitting of the vibrant interior design. This oak finish assured the doors were visually consistent with the surrounding furniture and interior detailing. The consistency of this look was enhanced with matching edge strips fitted to all doors. Pre-fitted and pre-finished, the laminated doors required no further preparation on-site before hanging.
Under the Surface
Aesthetic quality of the space was further heightened by the concealment of door hardware. In service of maintaining the project’s overarching modern design, Spence prepared door leaves with cutouts for hardware to sit inside the doors and out of sight where possible. Concealed Closers delivered automatic closure function to a number of door sets without compromise to visual appeal. Similarly, Bottom Seals closed off the below-door gap for acoustic performance by being fitted into a concealed rebate along the door’s underside.
Sounding Off
A functional essential of the co-working space was an appropriate noise level. This meant acoustically dividing the likes of discussion-filled meeting rooms from quiet personal workstations. Acoustic Doors satisfied this purpose; built with all the necessary compositional solidity and insulation qualities. A proprietary acoustic system was utilised to a achieve an Rw 35 acoustic rating of these door sets. Paired with appropriate acoustic seals, the passage of noise transfer was effectively sealed on all door sets.
Solid Work
Blockboard solid core was elected to compose most door leaves throughout the project. A commercial space like Hub is consistently frequented and so minimising the downtime and costs of maintenance is vital. This is why Blockboard was specified as the high strength core is resistant to bowing / warping as well as impact damage.
Both the internal and external components of each door were considered for the expected traffic and climate conditions. This permitted the installation of doors guaranteed to last in high-moisture settings like bathroom entries.
