Damage Resistant
Strong materials engineered to hold against direct impact and wear-and-tear.
Strips fitted to the door's edges to protect the door leaf. They offer a cost-effective alternative to full door cladding and capping. Application can be along the vertical stiles or to all four edges to cover the full perimeter dependent on protection level required. Spence Doors offer PVC and Timber constructed Edge Strips; each offer distinct advantages defined by the door set's purpose. Specification can be alongside door manufacture and the door leaf can be profiled/prepared accordingly, or can be easily retrofitted for existing damage.
Minimising Maintenance
Edge Strips are of particular use on doors featuring a specialty finish like a Laminate or Veneer. These surfaces present risk of peeling at their edges; Edge Strips conceal these edges from exposure and protect them from direct impact & environmental conditions. This maintains the visual appearance of the door over the long term as the edges are safeguarded from peeling and degradation.
PVC or Timber
PVC is well suited to high-use setting as it offers a greater strength resistance, and to wet-areas as the material is resistant to moisture-related decay. Timber is a good option where cost efficiency and visual finish are important. The strip may be painted or stained for a premium finish or even concealed as the full perimeter Timber Strips are fitted under the door skin.
PVC Edge Strips
A PVC Edge Strip fitted from top-to-bottom of both vertical door stiles.Strong materials engineered to hold against direct impact and wear-and-tear.
Engineered for strength to hold form against the pressures of high traffic and changing conditions.
Design makes for easy retrofitting into an existing door set.
Timber edge strips fitted to both vertical sides of the door. PVC is most commonly specified in Hospital and Industrial settings where consistent impact with the door and changing weather conditionas are risk factors respectively. PVC offers excellent strength resistance and moisture resistance.
Timber edge strips fitted to both vertical sides of the door. The vertical sides are the longer edges and the closing edge is the most impacted by opening and closing; as such these edges are the susceptible to decay. These strips are adhered onto the door's edges alongside the skin and is visible, the strip may then be painted or stained for a premium finish.
A full-perimeter banding with Timber. This offers additional protection to the top and bottom sides of the door leaf against damage. In a full perimeter fitting, the Edge Strips are concealed as they are fitted under the door skin.
Dependent on preference, the joints where the horizontal and vertical sections meet may be constructed as either butt joints or mitre joints. Spence Doors recommends the specifications of Butt Joints given the joining strength this offers.
