The Doorway to Apartment Living

The modern stylings of the apartment interiors are seen in warm colours and minimal detailing. All doors featured in these interior spaces reflect this high-grade finish with concealed hardware and appropriate skins. Door Preparations were completed for all concealed and/or rebated hardware to be easily fitted once on site. MDF door skins were selected for their smooth finish which readily accepts paint for the ease of installers, and for its smooth surface delivering a high-quality finish.

The backbone of such visual finish, however, is its function. The internals of all Flush Panel Doors (non-rated) were fitted with a core appropriate for its setting. This is exemplified by inter-room doors with primarily serve as privacy barriers being Semi-Solid to fulfil their purpose at the greatest cost efficiency. This included a number of cavity sliding doors leading through to bathrooms. Meanwhile, areas of high security or fitted with accessories (large hardware, vision panels, ventilation grilles) featured a Blockboard Solid Core. The security of these doors is complemented by thermal and acoustic properties. Framing of these doors were a mix of steel and timber construction delivering different looks suited to the architectural vision for the build.

In accordance with Australian Standards, each apartment requires fire compartmentalisation from hallways; this was achieved with apartment entry doors and stairwell doors being fire-rated. Tested to the latest Australian Standard (AS 1905.1:2015), these doorsets utilise a proprietary system of fire-resistant cored door leaf, fire-resistant frame, and tested hardware. The result is a wholly compliant and high-quality doorset for all apartment entries that will last for many years to come along with providing protection in the event of a fire.

Meeting Commercial Needs

The commercial building will be home to a series of retail spaces including a Woolworths shopping centre. Naturally, this space is expected to see heavy flows of traffic and so needed to be built to withstand heavy usage.

Standard (non-rated) doors in this building were Blockboard Doors with MDF skins. As customer-facing locales, this skin selection makes for an aesthetic finish as it has a very uniform surface. Doors within the administrative offices of these retail spaces were fitted with laminated Vision Panels for room-to-room visibility whilst closed. All frames were manufactured to perfectly match these doors, these steel frames were constructed from Zincanneal 1.2mm – 1.6mm in thickness.

The strictest component of the commercial building was fire separation. Similarly as with the residential building, these accommodated to 1- & 2-Hour fire separation. These doors spanned single and pair configurations and were finished with Ply skins for high impact resistance to withstand knocking and slamming over extended periods.
