Transom

  • Frame Extensions

A removable horizontal substrate separating a door from an adjoining panel. This framing component permits the vertical extension of a door set for three distinct purposes:

Extending Fire-Rated Door Sets

The fitting of a transom component is tested and certified with Spence Doors' 2-Hour Fire-Rated Door Set. This permits the vertical dimension of the doorset beyond the standard 2700mm of this doorset up to a 3000mm max height with a Transom installed. In the likes of server rooms where Fire-Rating is necessary, the need to transport large and tall goods through the opening is not compromised as the over panel and Transom may be removed as needed.

Fitting an Overlight

The space above the door created by a Transom framing piece is an opportunity for natural lighting to pass through. The fitting of an overlight can achieve this whilst adding a distinctive architectural feature to the door.

Creating a Service Space

Fitting a Transom into a door set creates a clearance in the wall above the door for the fitting of hardware and/or services. This can be utilised for the installation of an air conditioning unit, the passing of wiring, etc.
