1HR Fire-Rated Door Set (Single)

Complete door sets for single-door applications tested and certified for one hour of fire resistance according to AS 1530.4:2014. Suitable for application in commercial, industrial, and residential spaces. These door sets are applicable to all fire-resistant functions including the separation of a building’s fire compartments, protection of exit routes, and high fire risk areas such as kitchens and laboratories. Spence Doors’ manufacturing capabilities are suited to bulk manufacture of this door set custom to its purpose in your project.

Overview

The Single Door configuration features a Single Door Leaf + 1.6mm Pressed Metal Frame or Timber Door Frame. The door leaf is 38 or 48mm thick and may be up to 3000mm x 1500mm. Featuring a Pyropanel fire-resistant core with a Hardboard or Greenboard internal frame. All other features are customisable including frame function, door skins & cladding, and inclusion of accessories and hardware.

Compliance

All Spence Doors’ Fire-Rated doors feature intumescent seals around the internal frame; designed to expand under exposure to extreme heat. Paired with a Pyropanel fire-resistant core, this forms a door set capable of maintaining its fire resistance without the need for Fire Bolts. This is imperative for the door’s safety as an activated Fire Bolt fixes the door shut thereby rendering it inoperable. This poses a safety concern on two fronts:

If occupants had not evacuated in time, they are now trapped in this room with the intended point of egress now inaccessible.
The fire department also have a greater barrier to gain access from the other direction.

Standard Configurations

The standard configurations Spence Doors will quote as defined by the setting and requirements of its application. These door sets are made-to-order and so can be customised to suit your project, these are the starting configurations of door leaf, skin, frame, and cladding curated for typical application suitability and budget considerations.

Internal spaces exposed to high moisture such as bathrooms are fitted with FR Ply skins. This is a species of Plywood tested and certified specially for fire resistance. Ply offers far greater hydroponic / moisture-resistant qualities than MDF and thereby can withstand exposure to moisture without warping. The frame is specified to be Pressed Metal as this offers greater moisture-resistant properties than Timber. It is possible to fit Timber Frames in such applications provided proper timber protection / sealing however Spence Doors recommends Pressed Metal.

Cladding: None

A configuration for interior settings that require maximum protection against external factors. Metal Clad facings provide an additional protective measure to extend the door set’s lifespan and mitigate the risk of direct impact or intrusion. This suited to the likes of Security Rooms or sensitive areas in Commercial or Industrial spaces. The frame is specified to be Pressed Metal as this offers greater resistance against impact damage than Timber.

Cladding: 0.55mm Zincanneal Metal Faces

This doorset is curated for sheltered outdoor settings that require high protection against external factors (risk of direct impact, intrusion, weather elements etc.). Metal Clad facings provide an additional protective measure to extend the door set’s lifespan and mitigate the risk of direct impact or intrusion. Metal capping around the edges of the door leaf completely seals it against weather exposure to assist in elongating the doorset's longevity. The frame is specified to be Pressed Metal as this offers greater resistance against impact damage than Timber.

Installation: The frame on a Fire-Rated Door Set requires backfilling. This can be completed as an optional extra by Spence Doors during manufacture or can be completed by installer with mortar or other Spence Doors approved material.

Hinge and Latch Preparations

These preparation are made to the frame by standard - see below images (latch plate not included, shown for visual reference). The number of hinge preparations is dependent on door leaf weight and dimensions.

Recommended minimum number of hinges is a minimum of 1 hinge per 25kg.

Non-Cladded:

Up to 2040 x 920 = 3 hinges
Up to 2400 x 1020 = 4 hinges
Up to 3000 x 1500 = 5 hinges

Metal Cladded:

Up to 2040 x 920 = 3 hinges
Up to 2400 x 1020 = 4 hinges
Up to 2700 x 1200 = 5 hinges

Timber Veneer Cladded:

Up to 2040 x 920 = 3 hinges
Up to 2400 x 1020 = 4 hinges
Up to 3000 x 1500 = 5 hinges

Double-Acting Doors

Double-Acting Doors require additional hardware in order to uphold their Fire-Rating. Bullnose Meeting Stiles must be fitted to both vertical edges of the door leaf to to seal the doorset for fire resistance purposes - see below top-down illustration.

Extras

As this door set is made-to-order, alterations may be made to its construction to be purpose-built for your application. This includes door face claddings, door leaf, accessories, and additional framing components & seals.

This door set may double as an Acoustic Door Set. Capable of achieving a rating of up to Rw 47.

This involves the selection of a Metal Frame profile featuring a return for fitting of a Euroseal. The door leaf’s underside can also be profiled by Spence for fitting of a Bottom Seal for smoke and/or acoustic purposes. Between the Bottom and Euroseal fittings, the door leaf perimeter is effectively sealed against the passage of sound.

Laminates are tested and certified for fitting over particular configurations of the 1 Hour Single-Door Fire-Rated Doorset. This is a High-pressure laminate (HPL) composed from multiple layers of decorative paper pressed together under high pressure and bonded with resin.

The laminate is 0.8mm - 0.9mm thick dependent on specified laminate. Capable of being fitted over any of the available door skins (MDF, Plywood & Tempered Hardboard).
