Pressed Metal Frames and Timber Frames are both capable of achieving a Fire Rating. Which is best for your application is dependent on a number of factors including resistance time length requirement, exposure to moisture, and durability against impact.

Fire Door Sets are defined by the tested configurations of wall construction, door leaf, frame, and hardware together. At Spence Doors, this includes a wide variety of door frames including both metal and timber finishes.

Pressed Metal Frames

Spence Doors manufactures a wide range of Pressed Metal Door Frames, a number of which are certified for Fire Rating. Pressed Metal Frames are excellent for durability as the composition is suited to withstand heavy usage and impact. It is also suitable for a high-quality paint finish provided the metal’s uniform surface.

Spence Doors recommends a minimum 1.6mm steel gauge frame when fitting in a Fire Rated Door Set. This material thickness serves to uphold the door set’s integrity to inhibit flames. Additionally, the frame must be backfilled in a Fire Door set in order for it to be compliant to fire standards. This filling may be mortar or another certified Pyropanel filling.

Timber Frames

Timber frames are also capable of meeting Fire Rating standards. These are available on Spence’ Fire Doors with up to 1 Hour of protection. Timber door frames for a distinctly warm visual touch. The composition is also custom to your architectural needs with a series of high-grade timber species from which to choose. MDF, KD, Hardwood, Victorian Ash each have Fire Rated capability.

Meeting Acoustic Ratings

In the event that an Acoustic Rating is also required on a Fire Door set, Spence Doors offer profiles to accommodate this for an acoustic rating of up to Rw50. These frames feature a return which provides space to fit a rubber acoustic seal inside, thereby sealing the gap between door leaf and door frame. This addition of acoustic performance comes at no expense to the fire protection the door set is able to provide. As the seal does not conflict with the door perimeter’s intumescent strips. Spence Doors also offer Pre-Hung Door Sets which take this into account – delivering on both Fire and Acoustic Ratings.
